We have made it to London! We touched down last Friday and are gearing up for 24 months of overcast weather, sprawling metropolis, unhealthy pollution, and insane traffic. Much like our last place.
Everything went smoothly upon arrival, we found the estate agent (had to get the keys) and even our front door without a problem. With only about 30% of our stuff already here our flat is about 75% full, we thought the second bedroom would be good for visitors, but it turns out it has a more important role to play: storage for Karen’s road bike and my golf clubs!
Filling our time
Work has started right away; I will continue my relationship with the Chevron i-field program here in the UK, traveling some to Scotland where their North Sea operations are based, and doing some business development work in London for other projects (All subject to change tomorrow).
We found a group of Ultimate Frisbee players on Sunday in Hyde park, which is good because I didn’t really want to take up soccer and I don't think that flag football is an option, so now I won't have to embarrass myself as try and keep up with Karen on her 3 mile "warm-up". We will pick up our new puppy (Duke) on the 19th, so we expect our lives to become much busier and you should expect the classic cute puppy pictures to come your way.
Missing…
I am already missing my car and the Spurs. Relying on the mass transit schedule for every little errand I have to run is very frustrating for a Texas boy; it seems I will come back to the US having worked on my virtues (patience anyone?). Missing the NBA playoffs, and once we hit fall the entire football season, will surely be the biggest loss; I find it harder to yell at the espn.com box scores the morning after the game...
However...
I can say that the French wine is more plentiful, the chocolate is better, the scenery is impeccable, and the summer weather much cooler than what we have in Houston, so I think we'll be okay.
I will try and keep the communication up, once we get internet at our place it will be much easier.
My new mobile number is + 44 (0) 7841 730194, if you are dialing direct from the US it would be: 011 44 7841 730194.
